Army Engineer Memorial Awards
Elizabeth Bert is the daughter of LTC (Ret) Stephen and ThuVan Bert. She attends Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth, Kansas. She will attend Oklahoma State University where she will major in pre-Exercise Science. Elizabeth aspires to work in the Medical Field as an athletic trainer.
Lillianne Cade is the daughter of COL (Ret) and Mrs. Steve Cade, and attends James Madison High School in Vienna, VA. In the fall, she will attend West Virginia University, where she plans to major in Forensic Investigative Science. Lillianne aspires to a position in the federal government in the forensic science field.
Grady Jiggs Chapman is the son of Jeremy and Renee Chapman of Carlisle, PA where he attends Carlisle High School. He will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY where he intends to study systems engineering.
Anna Fenn is the daughter of LTC (Ret) and Mrs. Mike Fenn of Mannassas, VA attends Colgan High School. Anna will attend James Madison University in the fall, where she will determine her major after exploring the many exciting options that are available to her.
John Hansen is the son of COL and Mrs. Rick Hansen. John attends Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA. He will attend Missouri University of Science and Technology where he will major in business management. John aspires to find a career and job that is enjoyable to him
Andrew Luzzatto is the son of COL and Mrs. Matt Luzzatto, and attends Carlisle High School in Carlisle, PA. Andrew will be attending Norwich University in Northfield, VT where he will double major in major in Computer Science and Information Assurance, and International Studies. John hopes to be commissioned in the Army and serve in the Cyber Branch.
Arieanna Sendmeyer is the daughter of Scott and Alicia Sendmeyer, and attends Vincenza High School, Vincenza, Italy. She will be attending either Butler, Purdue, or Indiana University where she plans to major in pediatric nursing. Arieanna aspires to explore the world and work with children.
The Geraldine K. Morris Nursing Award is presented to Luke Conner, son of Kevin and Andrea Conner. Luke attends North Brunswick High School in Leland, NC. He will be attending the University of North Carolina – Wilmington where he will pursue a RN to BSN program and eventually earn a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
The Army Engineer Memorial Awards were established in 1967 as a living memorial to Engineer Officers killed in Vietnam and are given annually to honor all Engineer Officers who died in the line of duty. A candidate for an award may be any graduating high school senior who is a citizen of the United States and whose sponsor, parent, or legal guardian is a U.S. Army Engineer (active duty, retired or deceased), National Guard U.S. Army Engineer, Reserve U. S. Army Engineer, or current Department of the Army employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), as well as a current member of the Army Engineer Spouses Club. The merit based awards are open to students in all fields of study and are based on academic and extracurricular achievement during high school. All monies awarded must be applied toward tuition or scholastic expenses at a college, university, technical or vocational school.
The Geraldine K. Morris Award was established in 2006. Mrs. Morris served as an Army nurse, was Honorary President of the Army Engineer Spouses’ Club and wife of the 44th Chief of Engineers, LTG (Ret) John Morris. A candidate for this merit based award may be any graduating high school senior who intends to enroll in a program leading to a nursing degree or certification, is a citizen of the United States and whose sponsor, parent, or legal guardian is a U.S. Army Engineer (active duty, retired or deceased), National Guard U.S. Army Engineer, Reserve U. S. Army Engineer, or current Department of the Army employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The candidate must also have a parent or legal guardian who is a current member in the Army Engineer Spouses Club.(Exceptions do apply if parent or legal guardian is deceased). This award will be renewable based on the student's GPA and their maintaining full-time enrollment in a nursing program.
